Baseball Assessments Information

This message is about Majors Baseball assessments. It is intended for parents whose child will be League Age 11 or 12 this season, and for parents whose child will be League Age 10 but the child wants to try out for Majors. If this does not describe your child, you can disregard this email. As a reminder, a child's League Age for baseball is their age as of August 31 of the current year. For more info, see the Little League League Age Calculator.

Hello, baseball parents!

Here's what you need to know about our upcoming Majors Baseball assessments. If you have not yet registered your child for the spring season, please do so ASAP! They must be registered to come to assessments. www.portlandll.org

Assessments are required for players who are League Age 12 and 11 and any League Age 10 players who wish to try out for Majors.

If your child is League Age 10 and wants to try out for Majors, you must email our player agent, Sean, at [email protected]. If your child is League Age 10 but wants to play in AAA, they should not come to assessments.

If your child is unable to attend for any reason, please respond to this email to let us know.

When and where are assessments?

Assessments will be held on Saturday, March 11 in the Deering High School gym.

1 pm - 2 pm: League Age 12 players. Please arrive 15 minutes early to check in (12:45).

2 pm - 3 pm: League Age 11 players whose last name starts with A-H. Please arrive 15 minutes early to check in (1:45).

3 pm - 4 pm: League Age 11 players whose last name starts with I-Z. Please arrive 15 minutes early to check in (2:45).

*** League Age 10 players: email the player agent at the email address above and he will tell you which slot to attend.

What should we bring?

Your child should change into sneakers once inside the building (please do not track snow and dirt from outside into the gym). They should bring their glove, a bottle of water, a helmet, and a bat (we will have a limited supply of helmets and bats on hand, if needed). If they like to wear batting gloves, they can bring those, too.

As a parent, what should I do during assessments?

Parents are not allowed to observe assessments. Please return at the appropriate time to pick up your child.

Why do you have assessments?

For our Majors division, we do not assign teams based on the school a child attends. Our Majors managers draft their teams, and assessment scores help them in that process. It helps us to create teams that are as balanced as possible.

What happens after assessments?

The Majors draft will be held shortly after assessments. When that is done, the managers will communicate with their teams. Indoor practices will begin in late March or early April (TBD).

If you have any questions, please reply to this email. We look forward to seeing your child on March 11!
