Softball Assessments Information

This information is intended for parents whose daughter was born between 2010 and 2013.

Hello, softball parents!

Here's what you need to know about our upcoming softball assessments. If you have not yet registered your daughter for the spring season, please do so ASAP! She must be registered to come to assessments.

Assessments are required for Majors players (born in 2010 and 2011) and any AAA players born in 2012 who wish to try out for Majors.

We are also inviting all AAA players (born in 2012 or 2013) to come to assessments. Juniors softball, AA softball, and t-ball players do not come to assessments.

Nobody gets cut from Little League, so for many girls, this will be like a winter clinic, a chance to knock some of the rust off before the season. There is no charge to come to assessments.

When and where are assessments?

Assessments will be held on Saturday, March 11 in the Deering High School gym.

For girls born in 2010 and 2011 (league age 12 and 11, respectively): assessments will be from 10 am to 11 amPlease arrive 15 minutes early to check in (9:45). If you are unable to attend for any reason, please respond to this email to let us know.

For girls born in 2012 and 2013 (league age 10 and 9, respectively): assessments will be from 11 am to 12 pmPlease arrive 15 minutes early to check in (10:45). We strongly encourage all girls in this age group to attend.

What should we bring?

Your daughter should change into sneakers once inside the building (please do not track snow and dirt from outside into the gym). She should bring her glove, a bottle of water, a protective mask if she has one (like the metal ones pitchers and infielders usually wear), a helmet, and a bat (we will have a limited supply of helmets and bats on hand, if needed). If she likes to wear batting gloves, she can bring those, too.

As a parent, what should I do during assessments?

Parents are not allowed to observe assessments. Please return at the appropriate time to pick up your daughter (11 am for 2010 and 2011, 12 pm for 2012 and 2013).

Why do you have assessments?

For our Majors division, we do not assign teams based on the school a child attends. Our Majors managers draft their teams, and assessment scores help them in that process. It helps us to create teams that are as balanced as possible.

For our AAA players, it gives them a chance to have fun with their friends while working on their skills, and also gives us the chance to see where our younger players are at and what skills we should focus on developing when the AAA season starts.

What happens after assessments?

The Majors draft will be held shortly after assessments. When that is done, the managers will communicate with their teams. Indoor practices will begin in late March or early April (TBD).

For AAA players, the AAA director will assign teams at the close of registration, and you will hear from your child's coach, likely sometime in April.

If you have any questions, please email [email protected]. We look forward to seeing your daughter on March 11!
