No baseball or softball this summer

Hi everyone,
The Portland Little League board of directors has made the difficult decision to not play baseball or softball in July and August. This decision is disappointing for everyone, especially for those with children who are aging out of Little League this year (which includes several members of our board). We are still hopeful that we can put on a Fall Ball season; we will make a decision about Fall Ball before the end of summer. If we do have a fall season, players will need to be re-registered.
The board did not make this unfortunate decision lightly. Countless hours have been spent trying to make this work. Most members of the board have kids in the league, and the few that do not have kids in the league have volunteered for Portland Little League for decades. We share your disappointment and would give almost anything to have a "normal" Little League season this year.
As a result of this decision, we are going to issue refunds for all registered players that have not already requested one (minus the $3 website processing fee, which is not kept by Portland Little League). No action is needed on your part to initiate a refund. The refunds will be issued by check over the next 6 weeks or so - please be patient as we have hundreds of refunds to issue.
If you would like to donate your refund (or a portion of it) to Portland Little League, it would be greatly appreciated. Donated funds will cover year-round expenses we incur whether we play games or not, such as field maintenance (mowing, fence repairs, painting, etc.) and purchasing new equipment (balls, bats, catcher's gear, helmets, etc.). We are also looking to do something to celebrate the kids who are aging out of our league and didn't get a chance to play their final Little League season, and donated funds could go towards that as well. If you'd like to donate all or a portion of your registration fee to Portland Little League, please email [email protected]
If we do play in the fall, please remember that we'll still need coaches and other volunteers. And we'll also be looking for new members to join our board of directors when the current term ends in the fall. This winter will be a critical time for our board as we prepare for a 2021 season that, as of right now, is filled with uncertainty.
Stay safe, stay healthy, and have a great summer. We'll be in touch with updates when we have them.
